Oops!

My one year anniversary was on Monday and I totally forgot. I guess that is what I get for rarely blogging anymore.

In other news, we finally succumbed to our desire to see Season Two of Lost, so we signed up for Netflix. Now we just have to exercize the will power to cancel the subscription after the first month when we have seen the movies that our library doesn't carry.

What's Your Contraction Grammar Like?

This was fun. I don't know how well I would do with a spelling quiz though. Spelling seems to be my downfall. Well, spelling and proofreading.

You Scored an A

You got 10/10 questions correct.

It's pretty obvious that you don't make basic grammatical errors.

If anything, you're annoyed when people make simple mistakes on their blogs.

As far as people with bad grammar go, you know they're only human.

And it's humanity and its current condition that truly disturb you sometimes.

I am such a nerd, sometimes I shock even myself

For Christmas Happy Boy received a set of unit blocks. I didn't think too much about their actual name but just thought of them as "blocks".

One day we were playing with the blocks and out of curiosity I thought I would see they would fit together for the Pythagorean Theorem. They did! They really were "unit" blocks!

When that worked, I got way too excited and took the large triangles and started showing Happy Boy all the blocks they were equal to apart, and all the blocks they were equal to when placed together. (There are lots of other blocks in addition to the ones pictured.) He had no idea what I was talking about, but it made me so happy that I had to tell my husband when he got home.

Scary, isn't it?

Dog Days of January

Okay, so I know that January doesn't have Dog Days, but it does need something to describe it. The Slow-Depressing-Cabin-Fever-Pull-Out-My-Hair-Because-We're-
All-Going-Crazy-Days sounds a wee bit too awkward.

Happy Boy is going through a mental growth spurt, which experience has taught me goes hand-in-hand with a disobedience spurt. Today Happy Boy dropped a container of lemonade aid on the floor. Yesterday he poured a whole bottle of red wine vinegar into the bread machine and onto the counter. The other day he got into the food coloring. For the past several days there have been huge liquid messes of one sort or other on the floor that we got to clean up.

It has been mostly in the twenties and thirties here lately. I know that is downright balmy for some people, but for us warm blooded folks it makes outdoor activities difficult to do. Yesterday we all went on a walk and the only person brave enough to be out was someone who had to walk his dog. I decided that without gloves or mittens, we probably should have stayed home.

I am not a skirts-only type of person, but that is what I mostly wear since they fit better due to my shapeliness (or lack thereof). Because it has been so cold I have been wearing pants more often, and my favorite pair just got a hole in the knee.

On a happier note, we are in the middle of saying a novena to St. Thomas Aquinas which lists different virtues of his each day. It reminds me why I love him so much. It also reminds me of when I first fell in love with him, my junior year in college. Just thinking about him makes me feel happy.

Tomorrow is the feast of my husband's patron saint, so I will have to think of something special for him. St. Francis de Sales the patron saint of writers, but I don't know how to incorporate that into a dessert.

Try This Game if You Are Bored

Fill in the blanks. The last two letters of the first word are the first two of the next. The last two of the last are the first two of the first. I will give one word in the combox as a hint in case you need it. Happy thinking.

Weird Political Trivia

I recently found out that Tom Monaghan, the founder of Domino's Pizza and of the Ave Maria empire, sold his pizza company to Mitt Romney. Now he is endorsing Romney for President.

What a strange turn of events.

GPS Oddities

We recently got a GPS device and is it ever a fun toy! My husband takes it with us just about everywhere he goes, even if it is as boring as driving to work and back. You never know when there might be a fun alternate route.

We have noticed that sometimes the information entered into the system was either not correct or misinterpreted by it. The first time it happened we were told to turn onto "Corporate Doctor" rather than Corporate Drive. It has never gotten doctors confused with drives before. . . Then, when I plugged in the address of the craft store, which happens to be on John D. Doe Avenue, I was told to turn onto "John the Five Hundredth Doe Avenue." I wonder how that humorous mix up happened?

By far the funniest directions that we have been given were when we were instructed to turn onto the Federated States of Micronesia 2468. It really was called F.M. 2468 but now every time we see an F.M. road we joke about going to Micronesia.
