Yes, the Baby Finally Came . . .

Only seventeen days late and in the form of a girl. She was 8lbs, 11 oz and 20 ¾ inches long. For those of you who are interested, I had a wonderful, easy delivery at a nearby birth center. My labor was just over three hours and not nearly as painful as before. (From what I have heard, oftentimes very short labors are more painful. Happily, this was not the case.)

Happy Boy calls her "Baby" most of the time, although sometimes he calls her "Reeda". I think I will call her Reeda here as well. There has been almost no sibling rivalry. The glaring exception is that frequently when we change her diaper, he tells us that he needs one as well even though he doesn't.

The Waiting Game

Still no sign of the baby, in case you were wondering. And many people are wondering. Hardly a day goes by without a phone call from someone inquiring into the status of the baby. Every day at least one neighbor asks about me and the baby. (And living in an apartment, we have many neighbors.)

People tend to ask annoying things like "What! You're still pregnant?", "When are you going to have that baby?" or "What has the doctor said about this?" They tend to forget that the due date is an estimate, not a deadline. Since Happy Boy didn't even come until ten days after his ultrasound due date, it wouldn't be one bit surprising if this baby decided to do the same thing.

As my husband said, "So much for the chiropractor telling you that the baby was going to come early." "Early" has come and gone, and for that matter so has "on time".

Which Church Father are You?

You’re St. Melito of Sardis!

You have a great love of history and liturgy. You’re attached to the traditions of the ancients, yet you recognize that the old world — great as it was — is passing away. You are loyal to the customs of your family, though you do not hesitate to call family members to account for their sins.
